Note: If you are a prospective employer or mate, please read this in the spirit that it is written. My life, loyalty, trustworthness, intellect, dedication... cannot be summed up in a few short paragraphs.
This Web site, www.aweigh.com, is a place where I post information, foremost of interest to me. Some of it will be of interest to others.
This isn't a blog, although there may be a blog on the site.
My name is Dennis K. Biby and I'm a wanderer, writer, walker, kayaker, sailor and seeker. The "K" could stand for Kayaker or Kadiddlehopper (anyone know who he was?) Click here to send an e-mail.
I'm curious to see what's around the next bend in the road, curve in the river, or what's over the horizon on the ocean. So far, I've lived in eleven states, a few more than once. Those states include California, Hawai'i, Maryland, New Jersey, Oklahoma (where I grew up on a wheat farm), Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Virginia, Washington, and Confusion.
On a few occasions, I lived without state aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65), USS Midway (CV-41), and in Japan.
How is any of this relevant to anything?
I believe that until you have lived in a place for at least a few months, you haven't really seen that place. A few days or a week of vacation will introduce you to the same commercial view that every other visitor sees. If I didn't live in all of these places, my impression, knowledge, opinions, etc. of these places would have been seen through the horrendously manipulated filter commonly known as television.
Speaking of television, back when I moved aboard Sun Po, there wasn't space for a TV. Because I was actively sailing the boat as opposed to just living on it, Sun Po was always ready to sail. Dinking around with securing a TV was too much trouble. Since then - 1986 - I haven't owned a TV. Sure, I miss the "history channel" as if that's all people watch.
But then, if we need signs like this one - No Lifeguard on Duty, Wade at your own risk - in front of an ankle deep fountain, perhaps, civilization is doomed. If you think this is a necessary sign or believe that we should have more signs like this one, please click here...
