Santee River: Wambaw Creek (Wambaw Bridge Landing & Stills Landing)
On a fine October morning (10/20/07), I led a Lowcountry Paddlers club trip from Wambaw Creek Bridge down Wambaw Creek to the South Santee River. We paddled a short distance upstream and then turned into Chicken Creek.
At the top end, Chicken Creek exits the Santee River. The bottom end dumps into the South Santee River.
We paddled up Chicken Creek until stopping for lunch on a sandbar. Depending on the water level, there may be lots of sandbars or nearly none.
The entire trip winds through forests and marshes. Except for the portions on the Santee, the creeks are narrow and exciting. This is one of my favorite paddling areas near and in the Francis Marion National Forest.
