Chicken Creek

Wambaw Bridge to McConnells Landing (Santee River)

A good place to rendezvous when heading to paddling destinations near the Francis Marion Forest or Santee River is the Shell station in McClellanville.  On June 5th, I met Ralph there at 8:30 and then we headed to the Wambaw Bridge launch.

We are planning a 35-mile, one-day, circumnavigation of James Island (Charleston Harbor area) later this month, so we are in training.

Santee River: Wambaw Creek (Wambaw Bridge Landing & Stills Landing)

On a fine October morning (10/20/07), I led a Lowcountry Paddlers club trip from Wambaw Creek Bridge down Wambaw Creek to the South Santee River.  We paddled a short distance upstream and then turned into Chicken Creek.

At the top end, Chicken Creek exits the Santee River.  The bottom end dumps into the South Santee River.

We paddled up Chicken Creek until stopping for lunch on a sandbar.  Depending on the water level, there may be lots of sandbars or nearly none.
